College roundup: Barrington grad Tracy earns record-breaking time

Barrington alumna Rebecca Tracy, a senior captain on the Notre Dame women’s track and field team, broke the school, track and meet record in the mile with a time of 4 minutes, 33.53 seconds at the Alex Wilson Invitational March 1–2 in South Bend, Ind.
With that time, Tracy, who was a three-time Illinois state champion in high school, guaranteed herself a spot in the NCAA Indoor Championships in the mile. The Barrington native moved from 30th to sixth on the national list in that event.
Fenwick alumna Serafina Nuzzo, a senior point guard on the Denison women’s basketball team, recently earned first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors. This was the third consecutive season in which she earned such accolades.
Nuzzo finish fourth in the conference in points with 15.4 per game, which led her team this season and was a career high. The Western Springs native also finished her Denison career fourth on the all-time scoring list (1,384 points), second in career assists (436) and third in career steals (238).
Jack Connelly, a New Trier alumnus and freshman goalkeeper for the Providence College men’s lacrosse team, has started in goal for the Friars’ first three games. He had given up just 19 goals for a 6.82 goals against average while recording 28 saves and a .667 save percentage. The Kenilworth native had been in goal for all but 12 minutes and 45 seconds of the Friars’ first three games, all of which were wins.
Ridgewood alumnus Greg Raimondi has joined the Benedictine track and field coaching staff for the 2012–13 season. He will primarily work with the throwers on both the men’s and women’s teams.
Raimondi is a recent graduate of Carthage College, where he was a member of the track and field team. During his time on the team, he set the school record for both the weight and the hammer throw. He was also a two-time NCAA Championship qualifier and earned All-America honors by placing third in 2012.
Loyola alumnus Terry Heffernan was recently named an assistant offensive line coach for the NFL’s Detroit Lions. He previously worked as the offensive line coach for the Wayne State football team and as graduate assistant for the Michigan football team.
Heffernan played collegiate football at Dayton, where he was a three-time letter winner and a two-year starter at center. He twice earned All-Pioneer Football League academic honors, and he was a member of four consecutive conference championship teams.
