VERNON HILLS — The young Stevenson boys bowling squad — featuring Max Bemoras as its only senior — finished 12th among 15 teams at Saturday’s Vernon Hills Sectional.
The Patriots totaled 5,049 pins, just 27 behind 11th-place Woodstock. Stevenson stood in 10th place at the lunch break, with 2,583 pins after three games. Glenbrook North won the sectional with 6,026 pins.
Sophomore Matt Poetker was Stevenson’s top performer, finishing 25th overall with 1,103 pins. He posted a high game of 201 in Game 3, and hit 190 in his sixth and final game.
“I’m glad, and thankful, for the (sectional) experience,” Poetker said. “I’m looking forward to bowling in the offseason with my teammates. More experience is good. It should make us better in years to come.”
Patriots coach Barry Lapping described Poetker as, “an alley rat who’s totally into the sport,” adding that he is, “looking forward to having (Poetker) for two more good years in the program.”
Stevenson assistant coach assistant coach Jim Feurer said, “Matt is one of our most skilled bowlers. When he’s ‘on,’ his strike is explosive.”
Patriots junior Jeremy Schneeweis placed 27th in the sectional with 1,094 pins.
