Andy Bitto, head football coach and athletic director at Carmel Catholic, received a special honor on Sunday.
Bitto was the recipient of the prestigious 2012 Sports Faith International: Hometown Hero Achievement Award for Outstanding Coaches. He’s the only coach in the country to earn the recognition.
The ceremony was held at the auditorium at Carmel.
Former Oakland Raider Dave Casper, an NFL Hall of Famer and 2009 Sports Faith Hall of Fame inductee, gave the introduction and handed out Bitto’s award.
Tom Benson, owner and president of the New Orleans Saints, was the special guest. Other speakers were Darrell Miller (California Angels), Mike McCoy (Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders and New York Giants), Gregory Ketcham (Chaplain to Fighting Illini footbal team) and Audrey Zavodsky (race car driver).
