BOYS BASKETBALL: Stevenson (15-9 overall, 6-5 NSC Lake) stormed out out to a quick 9-0 lead over Lake Forest, and never looked back, en route to a convincing 51-44 road win that was a bit of sweet payback for the visitors.

GIRLS GYMNASTICS: There was the expected as well as a couple minor surprises during Thursday’s Niles North sectional. Two-time defending state champion Carmel remained on target for another state title, winning the sectional with 151.760 points, while Stevenson mustered 146.875 points to finish as runner-up.

Boys Basketball: Stevenson downs Lake Zurich

Led by Michael Fleming’s 23 points, the Stevenson boys basketball team claimed a 56-48 road win over Lake Zurich on Wednesday night. The Patriots (14-9, 5-5) took control of this NSC Lake contest early, when they jumped out to a 20-5 first-quarter advantage. Jalen Brunson finished with 11 points for Stevenson, while Colby Cashaw added 10. The game’s leading scorer was senior Mirko Grcic, who went 6-for-7 at the foul line to end up with 24 points for the Bears (14-12, 5-5). He was the lone LZ player in double figures. Fleming’s big night included five three-pointers. …

Ex-Stevenson star Dylan Richer, a senior guard at Washington University in St. Louis, has been named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week. Richter has been on fire. He scored 23 points in his team’s 83-78 win over Rochester on Friday. He then tallied a career-high 33 points on nine three-pointers in a 99-88 win over ranked Emory on Sunday. Richter shot 64.3 percent from the field in the Bears’ two victories, which came over two of preseason favorites in the University Athletic Association (UAA). He was 12-for-20 from three-point range, while he connected on 8-of-10 from the foul line …

She’s in a zone. Vernon Hills bowler Taylor Rigwood captured top honors in the Lake Zurich Sectional on Saturday at the Brunswick Zone in Deer Park. And she took the title in convincing fashion, averaging a 224.5 (1346 pins). Antioch’s Kelsey Schreiber was the runner-up with a 1284 (212.5). Rigwood has hit her stride at the right time. Hockey: AHAI All-State Games set for Monday

Two Stevenson hockey players — seniors Grady Suerth and Robert Biedron — have been named to the 2012 Amateur Hockey Association Illinois (AHAI) All-State Team. Suerth, a forward, has 13 goals and 27 assists in Metro North play this winter. Biedron has been a standout on defense. Daniel Easley of BGHW also was named to the squad. The senior forward has 14 goals and 9 assists in Metro Central action. The three players will participate in the AHAI All-State Game on Monday night at The Edge in Bensenville.
