A back wall of one of the buildings at Nichols Aluminum, 200 Schelter Road, started smoking at about 9:20 a.m., which triggered an alarm. Fred Kruger, Chief of the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District, said the business had already evacuated its employees by the time he arrived.
