Lincolnshire will host a Memorial Day ceremony starting at 10 a.m. Monday at Spring Lake Park. The ceremony will take place at the park’s baseball diamond, 49 Oxford Drive, and include an honor guard with the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District, the Lincolnshire Police Explorers, and local Cub and Boy Scouts participating, Public Works Department Secretary Kimberly Jurco said. The Naval Sea Cadets will participate in the ceremony, as well. The Rev. Leslie Luna and Jessica Ma will each give speeches at the 2012 Stevenson High School commencement, the first time students have done so under new speaker selection procedures. Stevenson’s graduation speech have changed this school year, giving a wider range of students the opportunity to apply, school officials said. Stevenson got rid of selecting a valedictorian through a ranking system many years ago. In the past, graduation speakers had to have a 3.5 grade point average, 100 hours of community service, leadership roles and four letters of recommendation. Students from both Deerfield High School and Stevenson High School will hold commencement ceremonies in the next few weeks. The Deerfield graduation ceremony will be held at Ravinia Festival at 5 p.m. May 29. Graduation tickets are given to graduates at the rehearsal at Deerfield High School the morning of the ceremony. Each graduate is provided with a maximum of six tickets for family and friends. Handicapped seating is available at Ravinia. Stevenson High School District 125 officials are discussing potential course changes for the future. Currently, students who take six classes and are involved in one sport, in any season, receive a waiver from physical education class. Officials have proposed only providing a waiver during the season the student is playing a sport instead of the entire school year. If students are involved in two sports and five classes, they receive a waiver and do not get credit. The school proposes not providing credit any longer, since doing so is like giving students credit for being involved in a sport. A Glencoe man was in Lake County court Thursday on charges of reckless homicide stemming from a fatal accident Jan. 13 in Lincolnshire. John Warsaw, 63, of 1194 Carol Lane, was charged with reckless homicide and two counts of aggravated driving under the influence causing death or great bodily harm, police said.
