BARRINGTON — Lake Forest helped cap an exciting Bronco Relays Saturday with a record-setting performance, but still fell short to host Barrington, which took first place in the Red Division with 80 points.
Fenwick led all teams with 86 points in the White Division, benefitting from a strong start to overcome a disqualification in the 400-yard freestyle relay due to a false start.
The Friars placed first in three of the first four events, including the 800-yard freestyle relay where they finished in 7 minutes, 32.66 seconds, ahead of second-place Lyons’ 7:45.55. Matt Bresnahan swam a strong second leg in 1:49.89.
Lake Forest (70 points) and Naperville Central (67) rounded out the top three in the Red Division, while Libertyville (77) and Lyons (74) placed second and third, respectively, in the White.
Lake Forest clocked 3:10.96 in the 400-yard freestyle relay to set a pool mark. The Broncos finished second in that event with 3:15.68.
“We were at 3:12 last week,” Lake Forest coach Cindy Dell said. “We were gunning for it.”
