Run with the American Cancer Society

Seasoned athletes and amateurs who have made a new year’s resolution to get into shape will have the opportunity to save lives from cancer while participating in endurance events by joining the American Cancer Society DetermiNation team.

Whether a first-time competitor or a seasoned athlete, DetermiNation participants can meet the personal challenge of endurance events such as an 8k, 10 mile, half-marathon or marathon with access to free professional training.

There will be an information session at 7 p.m. Jan. 31 at Running Away Multisport, 800 Waukegan Road, Deerfield.

American Cancer Society DetermiNation athletes help raise much-needed dollars to pay for free services for those fighting cancer, discovery of new treatments and ultimately, cures.

In addition to the fulfillment of raising money for the fight against cancer, DetermiNation participants also enjoy exclusive training and day-of-race benefits. These benefits include free team training to help achieve race goals, mentors for fundraising success and inspiration, invitations to social events and race-weekend VIP amenities, which can include gear check, private bathrooms, coaches along every mile of the race and much more.

DetermiNation events in 2012 include:

March 4 – Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans Half Marathon; March 25 – Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8k; May 26 – Fleet Feet Sports Soldier Field 10 Mile; June 23 – Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Half Marathon; July 22 – Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon; Oct. 7 – Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Plus, partnerships with more than 85 other races nationwide.
