Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. plans to cut about 150 jobs in the Chicago area, about 18 percent of its local workforce, part of a restructuring plan that will slash 2,800 jobs globally by the end of March.
Japan-based Takeda, which has its Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America headquarters in Deerfield, employs about 30,000 people worldwide.
The restructuring, announced Wednesday, will better align the company’s global workforce and consolidate operations, enabling it to integrate its acquisition of drugmaker Nycomed, the company said.
Takeda also is responding to the loss of exclusivity on some of its products, the ongoing effects of the economy and regulatory hurdles, said Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America spokeswoman Kara Hoeger.
