Lincolnshire gains, loses a company

Updated: February 20, 2012 8:49AM

And as fast as one moves in, another moves out.

One day after Lincolnshire officials announced that their business community would grow by one corporate headquarters, another member of that community announced it will move out. ACCO Brands Corp. will move its offices in March 2013 to a larger space in Long Grove.

“Our lease on this property expires next spring, so we embarked on a search about a year ago to see what would meet our needs, including this building,” ACCO spokesman Rich Nelson said.

Sysmex moving in

Lincolnshire is expected to gain a new corporate headquarters before ACCO’s move, though. Sysmex Corp. is coming from Mundelein to fill a four-story, currently vacant office building.

Village Manager Bob Irvin lamented the loss of ACCO, though.

“It’s disappointing whenever an employer base like that determines to move,” Irvin said. “You gain on some, and you lose on some. There wasn’t space in the village that fit their needs.”

Room to grow

ACCO began leasing about 169,000 square feet of office and laboratory space at the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Tower Parkway in 2000. The corporation makes an array of office supplies, and their success prompted a need for more space for their approximately 450 employees.

Nelson said the search included sites in Lake and Cook counties, but that the company chose the Kemper Lakes Business Center. That site, just northwest of the intersection of Illinois Route 22 and Old McHenry Road, is part of the odd corner of Long Grove that carries a Lake Zurich postal address.

The new facility will add about 20,000 square feet of both office and lab space, he said.
