Lake County judge vacancy down to Lindenhurst woman, Lake Forest man

Two applicants have been selected as finalists by Lake County Circuit Court judges for an election to determine which will fill an associate judge vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Joseph R. Waldeck.

Chief Judge John T. Phillips announced Tuesday that he has certified and sent the names of Janelle K. Christensen of Lindenhurst and Daniel L. Jasica of Lake Forest to the Director of the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts.

Both candidates are Lake County assistant state’s attorneys.

Jasica is chief deputy in the State’s Attorney’s Office, and has been an attorney 22 years. He represents the Lake County Board as part of his duties and also serves on the Lake County Electoral Board.

Jasica successfully represented the county in opposing a proposed state law that would have created an election commission to take over elections administration from the Lake County Clerk’s Office.

Christensen has practiced law for 20 years and has worked for the State’s Attorney’s Office since 2006. She is assigned to the State’s Attorney’s Civil Division.

Both were evaluated and found to be highly recommended by members of the Lake County Bar Association’s Judicial Selection and Retention Committee. In a recent poll of the entire Lake County Bar Association, they were also highly rated by the members who responded to the survey.

The Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts will prepare the ballots containing the finalists’ names and mail them to all Lake County circuit judges, who will then cast secret ballots for tabulation in Springfield.

Christensen or Jasica will be the second new judge elected this year.

Attorney Christopher Lombardo of Vernon Hills was recently elected to fill the vacancy that was created Feb. 3 when former Associate Judge Mitchell Hoffman was sworn in to fill the spot left by the retirement of former Chief Judge Fred Foreman.

Lombardo’s appointment as one of the county’s 24 associate judges became effective in June. Jasica was a finalist in that election as well.
