Lincolnshire driver hits police car on way to National Night Out

The no-doubt indicator that you are having a bad day: You pull out of your driveway to go to the neighborhood park around the corner, and you don’t just hit another car — you hit a police car.

An unmarked Lincolnshire police car suffered body damage on Aug. 5 when a driver turning onto Riverwoods Road accidentally struck it.

The officer was northbound on Riverwoods, just south of Everrett Road and on her way to National Night Out, the department’s annual community event in North Park, when another driver pulled out in front of her.

The other driver was also heading north to National Night Out — and both arrived a little late.

“We understand, just like anything else, these things happen,” Deputy Chief Bill Price said.

No one was injured, and no charges were filed, Price said.

However, both cars will need repairs, he said. Price said he did not yet have an estimate of the police car’s damage.

“Everything costs way more than you think,” he said.
