A 63-year-old man was killed Friday morning when the car he was driving was struck head-on by a larger car being driven by an 86-year-old Lincolnshire man, authorities said.
A 2012 Lincoln MKZ was westbound on U.S. 20, just east of Johnson Road in Marengo Township, when it entered the eastbound lane about 6 a.m. and struck a 1998 Honda sedan head-on, a release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s office said.
The driver of the Honda, Stephan A. Ford of Garden Prairie, Ill., was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver of the Lincoln, Roderick Mann of Lincolnshire, was taken to Centegra Hospital Woodstock by Marengo Fire Protection District paramedics and treated for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
The Lincoln’s air bags deployed and Mann was wearing his seatbelt, police said. Ford was not wearing a seatbelt and the Honda did not have airbags.
The sheriff’s office, Marengo police and Fire Protection District responded to the crash. The sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and McHenry County Coroner’s office are investigating.
