April’s village, Stevenson School Board races are already over in Lincolnshire

LINCOLNSHIRE — The April 9 election for Lincolnshire village trustee has already been decided.
When the filing deadline passed at 5 p.m. Dec. 26, three candidates had submitted nominating papers with three seats up for grabs.
Incumbent trustees Karen Feldman and Elizabeth Brandt will return to the Village Board. They will be joined by newcomer Patrick McAllister.
After more than a dozen years on the Village Board, David Saltiel decided not to seek re-election.
“After serving the village for 20 years, almost 14 as a trustee and six on the Plan Commission, I thought it was time to get some fresh blood,” Saltiel explained. “I do believe a constant, reasonable turnover of elected officials is a good thing for government.”
Saltiel said the decision didn’t prove tough to make and that he always set a term limit for himself.
“Philosophically, that’s how I feel,” Saltiel said. “I’m not a fan of boards that are stagnant. You have to realize things move on and that you should move on and try new things.”
Brandt, who is running for a fourth consecutive term, said she was hesitant to run for trustee again, but pointed out that not enough people were “stepping up.”
“I feel there is unfinished business,” Brandt said. “Primarily to finish the downtown development.”
Brandt said she’d like to follow through on some economic development projects, such as the development at the corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Half Day Road.
“Those are prime locations and things I want to make sure are done in the best interest of Lincolnshire,” Brandt said.
Brandt also cited aging infrastructure as motivating factors to run again.
“We have water main replacement and resurfacing of street planned, and I want to make sure we manage our money well,” Brandt said.
McAllister and Feldman were unable to be reached before the Review’s print deadline.
STEVENSON HIGH SCHOOL
Just like the Village Board contest, the School Board race for Stevenson High School District 125 also is uncontested.
Three incumbent board members will be re-elected in April. They are Gary Gorson, Steven Frost and Sunit K. Jain.
