Duffy wins big, retains 26th District state senate seat

BARRINGTON — State Sen. Dan Duffy was reelected as the 26th District state senator Tuesday night, winning an overwhelming 74 percent of the vote across Lake and Cook counties.
With all precincts reporting, the unofficial results had Duffy, the Republican incumbent, tallying 65,612 of the total 89,198 votes cast in the district. Democratic challenger Amanda Howland garnered 23,586 votes (26 percent).
“I’m looking forward to going back to Springfield to fix the pension problem,” said Duffy, who celebrated his win with supporters at Chessie’s in Barrington. “It’s our top issue.”
Other remaining priorities, Duffy said, include reforming and improving Medicaid and workman’s compensation.
Duffy said the state’s workman’s compensation system makes it difficult for companies to operate here because the cause of injury does not necessarily have to be at the workplace.
“Illinois has the worst guidelines for workman’s compensation,” Duffy said.
