BUFFALO GROVE
Anthony J. Brust, a 2009 Stevenson High School graduate from Buffalo Grove, has died from injuries he suffered in a motorcycle crash Monday night in Long Grove.
A 43-year-old Chicago man, who was driving a sport utility vehicle, has been charged with driving under the influence.
The accident occurred about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the intersection of Old Route 53 and Robert Parker Coffin Road, according to press releases from the Long Grove Fire Protection District, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Stevenson High School.
A GMC Arcadia, driven by Joseph V. Cardinale, 43, of the 11000 block of South Sawyer, Chicago, struck Brust’s motorcycle, the reports state. Cardinale was turning left from southbound Coffin to eastbound 53 when he allegedly struck the westbound Brust.
“The driver of the motorcycle was ejected from the motorcycle and was laying unconscious and unresponsive on the side of the road,” the fire district’s report states. “The motorcyclist was treated for life-threatening injuries and transported to the Level I Trauma Center at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.”
Brust was 21.
The driver of the SUV was uninjured, according to both reports. Neither had passengers.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Cardinale and charged him with driving under the influence and failure to yield. He posted a $3,000 bond.~.
